The relationship between humankind and nature is explored through the main religious and philosophical traditions, highlighting the historical and legal influences that have shaped its evolution. The contrast between anthropocentric and ecocentric perspectives and their impact on models of development and natural resource management plays a key role in reflections on environmental sustainability. 2. The encyclical Laudato Si’ offers a holistic vision of the environment and social justice, emphasizing the need for an ecological conversion as a response to the global environmental crisis. The pontifical document proposes an integrated approach that links the care of Creation to the protection of human dignity and the well-being of future generations. 3. Environmental protection in the constitutions of various countries is compared, with particular attention to the recent reform of the Italian Constitution and its implications for environmental law. The inclusion of environmental protection among fundamental principles raises issues of balancing with other rights, including economic initiative and the protection of health. 4. Climate change disproportionately affects the most vulnerable segments of the population, exacerbating social inequalities and posing new challenges for environmental justice. Global initiatives aim to strengthen the protection of the most exposed communities through regulatory and financial instruments, such as the Loss and Damage Fund. 5. Climate change litigation has developed at the international level through increasingly significant legal cases, addressing the legal challenges related to the recognition of environmental rights. Legal action emerges as a means to bridge regulatory gaps and to encourage governments and corporations to assume greater environmental responsibility. 6. The interaction between ethics, law, and activism proves to be fundamental in ensuring effective environmental protection. International institutions and climate litigation play a key role in promoting sustainable development models oriented toward biodiversity protection and the reduction of polluting emissions.
